Police have arrested five persons, two from Presidency College and three others, for the fresh violence reported on the college premises on Thursday morning.

Police said two persons, Perumal, II BA (economics), and Karthik, I BSc (zoology) were injured in the attack reported at around 11.50 am inside the campus.

A gang of students that came on MTC bus route 6 D clashed against those that travelled on 29 A and 27 H. The clash was allegedly due to election results.

JCP-East Seshasai said that the police entered the campus on a request from the Principal.

He also observed that the kind of weapons seized from the campus were far more lethal than those being confiscated from history sheeters in the city.

He said that no formal complaints from the injured students have been received and the injured were rushed to the hospital on their own and had chosen not to press for further police action in the incident.

Sources said the arrested were identified as Satheesh Kumar (19) I BSc (statistics) and Sasikumar (19) I BA (political science), both from this College, Balaji (21),  II BA(economics) at Loyola College,  Arun Kumar (19), discontinued student from Presidency College, and a juvenile offender (an ITI student). They were arrested by the police for possession of lethal weapons. They were secured from a bus stop near Presidency following a complaint from a police officer.  Representatives from the government had a word with the Principal to put an end to the brewing Student Council election trouble.
