18 sovereigns stolen from house in Pulianthope

CHENNAI/VELLORE: Burglars decamped with 18 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the house of a watch shop owner in Pulianthope, even as the family members were asleep inside, in the wee hours of Sunday.Police said M Sabir (38), who runs a watch store in MKB Nagar, was sleeping at his house in Barracks Gate Road, Pattalam, with his wife and four children. Around 1 am, Sabir’s wife Baharunnisa heard some strange noise, but ignored it thinking it was a rat.Sabir, who usually wakes up by 5 am for ‘namaz’, woke up only at 8 am as the family had slept late on Saturday night. In the morning, they were shocked to find the bureau open and the jewellery missing. Following this, they lodged a complaint with the Pulianthope police.
