BANGALORE: Ahead of the World Environment Day on June 5, the JCI group plans to unfurl a 100-km long cotton banner on NICE road, as an initiative to create awareness about the need to reduce pollution.The campaign will kick off on June 1 and will end on World Environment Day.NICE managing director Ashok Kheny said, “There is a need to address the environmental issues.  Environment has become a major concern, leading to not just global warming but also destruction of ecology. Pollution is hindering health  and regular functioning of life.” The cotton banner will start from Outer Ring Road, leading to Tumkur Road. A model banner will be unfurled at Cubbon Park on Thursday. “We are going to make it to the Guinness Book of records too as this is going to be the largest environment banner across the world. The campaign has already covered over 1,500 locations so far, creating awareness across villages, districts and cities,” said Shankar Patil, environment campaign chairman, JCI Bangalore. Former president A P J Abdul Kalam, Chief Minister Sadanand Gowda, Anil Kumble and Justice Santosh Hedge are a part of the campaign.
