KOCHI: Ten CPM members coming under the Palarivattom local committee resigned from the party on Wednesday. P V Shanmughan, C B Dileep, C B Pradeep and the Janata branch secretary were among those who gave up the party membership. The members later said the decision was taken following the CPM leadership’s failure in taking action against Palarivattom branch secretary Mahesh. They said that, despite ample evidence of corruption against Mahesh and numerous complaints, the leadership had repeatedly ignored the issue. The members also alleged that Mahesh was involved in fraudulent activities and had swindled money to the tune of thousands of rupees from the fund collected to help former branch secretary Sudhakaran. “At that time, Mahesh escaped thanks to a factional feud in the CPM. He was even promoted to the post of branch secretary at the last meeting of the party. He also co-opted the members who had protested against his appointment to the committee, thereby gaining their support and leaving us disillusioned. These are the major reasons for our resignation,” the members said in a joint statement issued here. They also warned that more members will resign from the party soon if the leadership does not take strict action against corruption.
