10 killed in 2 accidents in Chitradurga district

 Ten people were killed and 16 injured in two separate accidents in Talaku police station limits in Chitradurga district on Monday.

 Seven people, including three children, travelling in a car were killed on the spot and another one suffered serious injuries when the vehicle rammed into a stationary excavator near Kamadhenu petrol bunk on Srirangapatna-Bidar state highway in the afternoon.

 According to people who witnessed the accident the speeding car went out of control and hit the excavator.

 The deceased have been identified as Srinivas (44), a BPCL dealer, his wife Kiran (35), Jyothi (35), Hemavathi (45), Puneeth (12), Hemanth (8) and Kavya (6).

 Padmavathi (50), who sustained injuries in the accident, was taken to Chitradurga District Hospital, from where she was referred to Davangere Government Hospital.

 Srinivas was driving the car, and they were going to Challakere to attend a family function.

 In another incident on Monday morning, a Tempo Trax carrying labourers to Surapur taluk of Yadigiri district from Bangalore collided head-on with a unjab-registered truck near Kodihalli village in Challakere taluk. Two persons died on the spot and another one at Chitradurga District Hospital.

 Driver Vinod (30) and Yella Ningappa (18) died on the spot, and Anasuya Bai (45) from Adidal Tanda of Surapura taluk succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

 Fifteen people, who sustained injuries, have been admitted to the hospital.

 Superintendent of Police M N Nagaraj, Additional Superintendent of Police Shantharaj, Deputy Superintendent of Police P M Shekharappa, Inspector T Manjunath and Tahsildar DK Ramachandrappa visited the spot.
