Disclaimer: Uber Car Seat is only offered in select locations, like New York City and Los Angeles.
Quick Steps

How to Request an Uber with a Car Seat

Submit your pick-up and drop-off locations. Open the Uber app and type in your current location, along with where you’d like to travel.

Scroll through the available rides and tap Uber Car Seat. Go to the “More” section to find the “Car Seat” option. Ride availability may depend on your location and the time you request the ride. Uber Car Seat is only available in certain cities, like Los Angeles and NYC. If you don’t live in these areas, the Car Seat option likely won’t be available.

Confirm your pickup location. Use the app’s pin feature to identify exactly where you want to be picked up, so your driver can easily reach you.

Pay for your trip. Keep in mind that an Uber Car Seat ride adds an extra $10 to the total cost.

Wait for the driver to arrive. When the driver arrives, it’ll be up to you to load your child into the car seat and make sure they’re good to go for the trip.

What to Keep in Mind

Uber Car Seat is only available in select locations. According to Uber’s US website, the service is only available in NYC and Los Angeles. Some international cities also offer the Uber Car Seat service, like Melbourne, Australia.

The child in the car seat needs to be between 5 and 65 pounds (2.3 and 29.5 kg). Uber has specific size requirements for children in car seats: they need to weigh at least 5 lb (2.3 kg) but no more than 65 lb (29 kg), and they must be 49 in (120 cm) or shorter. If your child is too big, they won’t be able to ride.

Uber Car Seat rides will only have 1 car seat. If you have multiple small children you’re traveling with, Uber Car Seat won’t be a great option for you.

Qualifying Uber rides all use Nuna-brand car seats. In the United States, Uber mandates that participating drivers have Nuna car seats—in NYC specifically, Nuna RAVA seats are required. Uber requires all participating drivers to receive training on how to install the car seat, so you don’t need to worry about your child’s security.

Wipe down your child’s hands before putting them in the car seat. To prevent any allergic reactions further down the line, Uber urges parents to clean off their child’s hands with a wipe before they touch the car seat in the Uber.

What's your reaction?
