Third-Party Bluetooth Keyboards
Ensure your keyboard works with your iPad. There are many third-party Bluetooth keyboards available. Check your keyboard's packaging to see if it specifies a particular iPad model. This is especially important if you have a case with an attached keyboard or a folio-style keyboard, as the iPad must fit into the case.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Make sure Bluetooth is toggled on before you continue.
Turn on your keyboard, then press and hold the connect button. The location of the keyboard's power switch/button and connect button may vary. The power switch/button may be on the top or back of the keyboard, or it may be a button on the front of it. Likewise, the connect button could be a separate button on the top or back of the keyboard, or it may be a button on the front.
Tap the keyboard when it pops up under "Other Devices." Once the keyboard connects, it will be added to the "My Devices" section. It will also say "Connected" next to the keyboard's name in the device list when the keyboard is currently connected, and "Not Connected" when the keyboard is off or the Bluetooth connection has been severed.
Open an app where you can type and start typing. When you're done using your keyboard, make sure to turn it off to conserve battery charge. Most Bluetooth keyboards come with a charging cable, and you can recharge it by plugging it into a USB charger.
