Steps

Send him a good morning message.

It will be the first thing he sees when he wakes up. It’s always nice to wake up to a text from your boo! When you get out of bed, quickly text him a sweet good morning to make his day. Try something like: “Good morning! I hope you have a great day.” “Time to wake up! Can’t wait to see you later.” “Good morning babe!”

Ask fun, interesting questions.

Keep your conversation moving by texting him a few questions. You could ask him about your relationship, where he sees himself in the future, or just what he’s up to right now. The more questions you ask, the more fun your conversation will be. Try questions like: “Do you have any hidden talents?” “Would you ever go skydiving?” “What’s your favorite memory of us so far?” “What is your favorite movie of all time?”

Flirt with him.

Send a suggestive text message to get his engine going. Just because you two aren’t together in person doesn’t mean you can’t flirt! Craft a fun, sexy message to send him, like: “I had a dream about you last night. Wanna hear what it was about?” “If we were stuck together on a deserted island, what’s the first thing you would do?” “Thinking of you and how you kissed me last night. Wish you were here.”

Ask him to send the best photo he’s ever taken.

It could be of himself, his animals, nature—anything! Request that he sends you an artistic picture so you can gush about how nice it looks. Follow up with the best picture you’ve ever taken so you can both compliment each other. Propose it by saying something like, “What’s the best pic you have on your phone?”

Give him a compliment.

Point out his looks, his personality, or even his voice. Send him a text giving him a compliment so he knows you can’t wait to see him again. If you aren’t sure what to say, think about what you like about him the most. Try something like: “Your voice is my favorite sound.” “You looked so good in that picture you posted earlier.” “I feel so safe around you.” Gregg Michaelsen, Dating Coach When conveying affection by text, lead with sincerity over gimmicks. Match his tone while sprinkling in creative surprises, like reminiscing on favorite memories, to keep fond expressions feeling fresh.

Let him know you’re thinking about him.

If he pops into your head throughout the day, send him a text. Maybe you remember something sweet he did, or maybe you’re laughing at a joke he told. You can make his day by telling him what you just thought of, like: “I can’t stop thinking about how hard we laughed together last night. I had so much fun.” “You keep running through my mind! Stop distracting me, I’m busy.”

Try a play on words.

These goofy phrases will make him laugh out loud. If you want to send him something sweet but you aren’t sure what to say, try one of these lines. Add a few emojis in to really send a message! “Forget the butterflies. I feel the whole zoo when I’m with you!” “I know you’re busy today, but please add me to your to-do list.”

Send him a silly pickup line.

You might make him chuckle when he reads what you’ve sent. Pick the most over-the-top pickup line that you can think of to really get a giggle out of him. If you’re lucky, he’ll send one back! Try something like: “Do you like raisins? How about a date?” “If I could rearrange the alphabet, I’d put U and I together.” “I must be a snowflake, because I’ve fallen for you.”

Tell him you can’t wait to see him.

Play up your excitement to let him know you miss him. Even if you just saw him yesterday, send him a sweet text telling him how eager you are to see him again. It will convey the message that you like him a lot and enjoy his company. Say something like: “Can’t wait to see you tomorrow! I always have so much fun when we hang out.” “Counting down the days until I see you again. Miss you lots.”

Suggest some fun activities for your next hang.

It will show him that you’re excited to see him again. Text him a few date ideas to see if he likes any of them. If he does, that’s your cue to get planning! Try something like: “Want to come over to my house and Netflix and chill?” “I’d love to take you to that new restaurant downtown.” “What do you think about a date to the aquarium?”

Text him a sweet goodnight message.

Let him know he’s on your mind as you fall asleep. Tell him you’re going to bed and assure him that you can’t wait to talk to him in the morning. Even if he’s already asleep, he’ll appreciate your sweet sentiment. Say something like: “Goodnight, I’ll see you in my dreams.” “Sleep tight, I’ll talk to you in the morning.” “Goodnight, I can’t wait to see you tomorrow.”

Send a photo of yourself.

Take a selfie or grab a shot of your surrounding landscape. Send it to your boyfriend with a fun caption letting him know where you are and what you’re doing. It’s a nice way to update him on your daily life, and you might even get a cute selfie back! If you aren’t feeling the selfie vibes, grab a cute pic of your animals or the view instead.

Send him a song that reminds you of him.

He’ll be delighted that you’re thinking of him when he’s not there. Pull up your Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube account, and search for a song that makes you think of him. Send him a link along with a caption like, “This made me think of you.” You could send a song that played on your first date, a song that you two danced to, or just one that really captures who he is as a person.

Use a few emojis.

It will keep your messages lighthearted and fun. Throw in a few smiley faces or some heart emojis when you’re feeling it. Try to stick to 1 or 2 emojis per message so you don’t flood his phone with them! You could also look for funny gifs or cute pictures to send instead.

Send him a funny meme.

Tell him that this made you laugh or think of him. If you stumble across a funny meme that you like, text it to him so he can laugh too. You could also send it to him via Instagram or Twitter if it’s easier. Bonus points if the meme references an inside joke or tv show that you both really like!

What's your reaction?
