Mohammed Shahid: India’s Hockey Legend Passes Away At 56
Shahid, who was part of the team that won gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, died at a Gurgaon hospital on Wednesday following his battle with a severe liver condition.

Legendary Indian hockey player Mohammed Shahid, who was part of the team that won gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, died at a Gurgaon hospital on Wednesday following his battle with a severe liver condition.

He was also a part of the national team that won a silver medal in the Delhi Asiad in 1982, and bronze in the Seoul Asiad in 1986.

Shahid is survived by his wife Parveen Shahid and twin children Mohammad Saif and Heena Shahid.There was an outpour of emotion on social media as the news of his passing away reached the sports fraternity and fans in the country.

The sports ministry had earlier this month announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for ailing hockey champion. His medical expenses were being taken care by his employers Indian Railways.
