Germany might not yet have qualified for the knockout stages of the FIFA world cup but for former India football captain, Baichung Bhutia it's the strongest contender to win the coveted trophy.
Speaking at Google Cafe in New Delhi on Tuesday, Bhutia said that he was most impressed by Joachim Lows' side.
"Before the tournament I had picked four teams as top contenders, now after the first two games Germany looks very good."
Baichung also said that Argentina had been unconvincing in its wins, while the hosts were just beginning to hit form. Spain's exit however came as a surprise to Bhutia.
"I never expected Spain to exit so soon. Del Bosque should have fielded a different side. He got his tactics wrong", he added.
The man who scored 42 goals for India and currently manages Sikkim United, believes that India still has a long way to go to make a mark at the international level.
"In India more work needs to be done at the grassroots level. The federation is doing a lot of work but the effort must come at the state and district level to promote the sport."
For the crunch Italy, Uruguay tie tonight the former East Bengal striker feels that it would be a hard fought game but predicts the Azzuri to scrape through.
But while Germany is Bhutia's pick he says Belgium could prove to be the dark horse.
