Wenger might enter transfer market in January
The Gunners have had a rough start to the season and are currently in 15th place.

London: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that he might dip into the winter transfer market to bolster his squad, depending on results and what position the team are in come December.

The Gunners have had a rough start to the season and are currently in 15th place after seven games, ahead of Sunday's lunchtime clash against Sunderland.

"At the moment I would say, spontaneously, 'No'," said Wenger, according to The Mail on Sunday, when asked if he was planning additional player purchases in the January window.

"But, firstly, it depends who is in the market and, secondly, it depends how well we do from now on to December. Because if we have good results and the players develop well, number wise we have a big squad."

The Frenchman also defended his summer signings, which included Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Per Mertesacker, Andre Santos and Park Chu-Young, among others.

"Many times people judge your buys quickly but I'm quite happy with the buys we made," Wenger said.

"I'm not happy with our results, but that's completely different. I've heard [Alex] Song is a bad buy, [Thierry] Henry was a bad buy.

"Andre Santos was not ready physically when he came but I think he's a very good player. Arteta is a very good player. Mertesacker is getting stronger. They basically all arrived one month ago. What is at stake is to rebuild the team."
