Xabi Alonso made history after beating Bayern Munich 3-0 to extend their points lead over the Bavarian Giants. Playing on home turf, Bayer Leverkusen players looked a lot more in control of the game than their visiting counterparts. Josip Stanisic was soon able to find Bayer Leverkusen’s first goal of the night. Alex Grimaldo doubled the home side’s lead in the second half before Jeremier Frimping notched a third in added time.
Very few footballers in the modern era have been born with the grace and calm as that of Xabi Alonso. Known for being a dynamic midfielder in his prime, Alonso was widely recognised for his movement with the ball and his sublime touches. His adaptability had led to Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola once terming him as a chameleon in the past. His prowess as a player has seemed to transition perfectly into his role as a coach.
While it is still too early to evaluate Xabi Alonso’s career as a coach, he continues to make more history in Germany. Alonso is currently spearheading Bayer Leverkusen’s undefeated run this season. Bayer Leverkusen have now played a total of 21 matches this season. In these games, Alonso’s side have managed to pick up 17 victories while conceding four draws. They currently stand five points above the defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Bayer Leverkusen are next set to face ninth-placed Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
