Kranjcar volleyed into the bottom corner in the 57th minute after pouncing when Sandro's right-wing cross was only half-cleared by John Mensah. The Croatian also scored the winner in last weekend's match against Bolton.
Asamoah Gyan put Sunderland in front after 11 minutes with his 10th goal of the season.
But Michael Dawson headed Tottenham level in the 44th after meeting Steven Pienaar's corner.
