Tests on Monday ruled out a muscle injury but revealed "indications of overload on the right knee."

Fiorentina forward Giuseppe Rossi is having more problems with his right knee, which has been operated on three times.

Rossi has been out of action since injuring his thigh during last Thursday's training session.

Tests on Monday ruled out a muscle injury but revealed "indications of overload on the right knee."

Fiorentina add that Rossi "will undergo a period of rest and appropriate treatment for at least seven days, at the end of which he will undergo further tests."

Rossi was left out of Italy's World Cup squad after returning from a four-month injury layoff shortly before the tournament in Brazil.

The New Jersey-born forward was Serie A's leading scorer with 14 goals in 17 matches for Fiorentina when he reinjured his right knee in January.

Rossi underwent two previous operations on the same knee.
