Manchester United will have to continue to trim the fringes of its senior squad to finance the signing of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The transfer drama between the two parties has been raging on since the beginning of the summer window. Now a broad agreement on many aspects of a deal is understood to be close. Initially, there was a big gap in the player’s valuation but both clubs have reportedly found room to compromise on the price.
Sky Sports reported that a deal remains difficult without further sales at Old Trafford. This means the Uruguayan’s potential transfer will likely go into the final week of the summer transfer window.
Ugarte has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford. The discussion of personal terms is not considered an issue but the lack of sales could hinder the club from signing the PSG footballer. Player departures at Manchester United will aid the management to complete a permanent deal for Ugarte. They also have not completely ruled out the option to loan the midfielder with an obligation to buy.
Manchester United is well aware of Ugarte’s desperation to join the English side. To secure the Uruguayan star’s signature, Manchester United are looking to get rid of some of their star attackers. The Red Devils have already created some space in the squad, selling Facundo Pellistri to Greek side Panathinaikos yesterday, August 22. The two parties have reportedly agreed on a sale price of £5.1 million with another £1.7 million in add-ons. Manchester United are now looking to complete the sale of Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley.
While Manchester United have their eyes set on Ugarte they are also reportedly looking at other midfield options for the ongoing season. They are understood in open dialogue with Fiorentina over the signing of Sofyan Amrabat who is expected to be cheaper than the Uruguayan. Manchester United also have an eye on Frenkie de Jong’s situation at Barcelona, according to reports. They are understood to have always admired the midfielder, even trying to sign him last summer.
Manchester United kicked off their Premier League journey with a 1-0 win against Fulham last week. In their next fixture, the Erik ten Hag-coached side will be up against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday, August 24.
