Timo Warner is expected to get more game time for the rest of the season as the RB Leipzig forward is all set to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan. The Premier League outfit has already completed the initial formalities and the deal will reportedly be announced early this week. According to a report by ESPN, a six-month loan deal has been agreed upon between Tottenham and RB Leipzig that will see Warner return to the English club competition after more than three years since leaving Chelsea in July 2020.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is hopeful of the German international bolstering their attack until the end of the season. The Australian manager seems to have an influence in orchestrating the move. He has reportedly convinced Warner that he would help the footballer once again achieve success in the Premier League. As per several German reports, Tottenham have paid around £15.5 million for the loan deal, which also has an option to buy.
According to RB Leipzig technical director Mario Gomez, this loan spell will certainly benefit Warner, who is desperate to secure a spot in the German squad for the Euro 2024 on home soil. During an interaction with German outlet SPORT1, Gomez said, “It’s a win-win for everyone. Germany benefits from it. We benefit from this because we get a player going. He will play regularly, that’s what Tottenham have conveyed to us.”
Postecoglou will miss the services of captain Son Heung-min for the coming few weeks. The South Korean forward has taken a break from club assignments to represent his country at the Asian Cup in Qatar. In his 20 appearances in the Premier League, Son has netted 12 goals while providing 5 assists.
The arrival of Warner will no doubt help Postecoglou counter the absence of Son. The former Chelsea striker is quite versatile. Apart from playing as a centre-forward, Warner can also operate along both flanks. Thanks to this special ability, Warner is expected to remain a regular for the Spurs even after the return of Son.
RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose has also shown a thumbs-up to the loan agreement of Warner, saying, “It’s only right that Timo wants to go out on loan. Timo would like to go to the European Championship. We wish him all the best and we’re crossing our fingers for him.” Warner was able to strike the net twice in his 14 appearances for the Bundesliga giants this season.
