Liverpool: Arsenal climbed into second place in the Premier League as goals by Bacary Sagna and Cesc Fabregas earned Arsene Wenger's side a 2-1 win at Everton on Sunday.
Sagna scored a rare goal in the 36th minute when the France right back smashed a high shot in at the near post from 10 yards.
Fabregas doubled Arsenal's lead three minutes into the second half after exchanging passes with Marouane Chamakh before steering a low shot into the far corner.
Everton piled on the pressure in the final 20 minutes and reduced the deficit in the 89th when Australia midfielder Tim Cahill bundled in from close range after Louis Saha headed down a corner at the far post.
Arsenal, though, held on for the three points that lift the team above Manchester United in the table.
Everton remained 13th following its first defeat in eight games.
After losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle last Sunday, Arsenal has bounced back well, with this victory following a 2-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
Apart from a frantic final quarter of the match when Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was bombarded with shots from all angles, the visitors contained Everton well.
They edged a tight first half, with the recalled Andriy Arshavin volleying just wide before firing over after going past two defenders on a fine individual run.
It was the Russia captain who set up the opening goal for Sagna, who controlled Arshavin's lay-off before powering a rising shot into the roof of the net.
Fabregas scored his first goal since the middle of September when a one-two with Chamakh ended with the Spain midfielder sweeping home his finish from 12 yards.
As Arsenal sat back to protect its lead, Everton came swarming forward.
Substitute Jack Rodwell scooped a shot over after Steven Pienaar's cutback before Jermaine Beckford, Pienaar and Louis Saha all had efforts saved by Fabianski.
Cahill's close-range finish gave Everton a chance to snatch a point but Arsenal held on.
