Churchill ad deal in trouble after molestation charge
The deal is believed to be more that Rs 5 crore annually.

New Delhi: The alleged molestation incident involving players of Churchill Brothers and the arrest of three players, including captain Odafa Okolie could cost the team much more than just its reputation.

The I-league champions, who inked a record-breaking sponsorship deal with Kunnath Pharmaceuticals, are now in danger of losing their lucrative sponsorship deal.

The deal is believed to be more that Rs 5 crore annually.

Kunnath Pharmaceuticals officials have sought an emergency meeting with Churchill Brothers' owner Churchill Alemao on Thursday to discuss the alleged molestation and assault of a SpiceJet airhostess on Tuesday night.

Kunnath Pharmaceuticals MD KC Abraham has been quoted as saying: "We're coming to Goa on Thursday for a meeting with Alemao. As of now, we do not have a clear picture of what transpired on the flight and the subsequent happenings at the airport. We will hear from Churchill and then review the sponsorship deal."

Kunnath's Musli Power Xtra is the main sponsor for the team, which was renamed as 'Musli Power Churchill Brothers' after inking a deal with the company last September.

Along with Odafa two other Churchill Brothers players - Arindam Bhattacharya and Kalu Nnanna - were arrested on Tuesday night after they allegedly tried to molest an airhostess in SpiceJet's flight SG 804 from Goa to Kolkata via Mumbai.

The entire team comprising 23 players were off-loaded at Mumbai airport.
