Bihar Govt Suspends Engineers Over Bridge Collapse Incidents

Taking strict action in connection with a series of recent incidents of bridge collapse in the state, the Bihar government has recently suspended 15 engineers. The suspended officials included four executive engineers. The decision comes after a probe panel submitted its report to the Water Resources Department (WRD). A total of 10 bridges collapsed in Araria, Madhubani, East Champaran, Siwan, Saran, and Kishanganj districts in the past 17 days. The report found that the main reasons behind the collapse of small bridges and causeways in the state were the ineffective monitoring and negligence of engineers, according to the Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources Department, Chaitanya Prasad.

Hathras Stampede: SIT Chief Says Evidence Suggests Organisers Are Guilty

After the Hathras stampede mishap shook the nation, claiming at least 121 lives, the Uttar Pradesh government’s Special Investigation Team probing the case has recorded the statements of 90 people so far. SIT chief Anupam Kulshrestha, along with the Additional Director General of Police (Agra Zone), is leading the three-member SIT tasked with preparing a detailed report on the July 2 stampede at a ‘Satsang.’ The officer said that the scope of the investigation has been extended as more evidence emerged.

Centre Says Not Rational To Scrap NEET, Honest Students Will Be Hurt

Opposing the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, the Centre filed an affidavit to the Supreme Court. The government argued that, given the lack of evidence of any large-scale violation of confidentiality in a pan-India examination, it would not be rational to scrap the entire examination and the results that had already been announced. The government also submitted before the apex court that a panel has been established to provide recommendations for conducting fair exams. The government also stated that following the current examination, the Ministry of Education established a High-Level Committee of Experts to suggest effective solutions for the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct transparent and fair exams.

India Win T20 World Cup Against South Africa

Etching its name in history, India defeated South Africa in a nail-biting match held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. This win marked Team India’s second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title, ending their 11-year-long wait. Chasing 177, South Africa, despite being in a dominant position at one stage, lost the match. It is worth noting that India was dominant throughout the competition, storming into the final unbeaten with wins over the likes of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Australia, among others.

Jaishankar Asks To Isolate And Expose Countries That Harbour Terrorists At SCO Summit

During the 24th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State in the Kazakh capital on Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recalled that one of the original goals of the summit was to combat terrorism. He asked the international community to isolate and expose countries that harbour terrorists. He further appealed not to provide safe havens and condone terrorism, highlighting that terrorism can become a major threat to regional and global peace if left unchecked.
