A plethora of awards were bestowed on the players and teams involved in the successful WPL 2024 campaign. So, to understand them all, let’s break them down and take a gander at the finer details.
Prize Money for WPL 2024 Winner and Runners-Up
Starting with the biggest of them all, the championship money. How much does the ultimate winner receive?
After a 16-year-long wait, the women of the Royal Challengers Bangalore did what the maen have failed to do so far: bring home the gold.
RCB, led by skipper Smriti Mandhana, triumphed over Delhi Capitals in a scintillating final, where the visitors wreaked havoc to secure a dominant 8-wicket victory.
For their success, RCB received INR 6 crore as prize money, while opponents DC earned INR 3 crore for finishing runners-up of the tournament.
Prize Money for Orange Cap Winner
It was none other than RCB’s batting phenom Ellyse Perry who took home the Orange Cap, as she capped off her WPL season with 347 runs in 9 games, at a whopping average of 69.40 runs.
After a plethora of game-winning knocks, and a crucial inning that set RCB up for victory in the final, Perry, as the Orange Cap winner, took home a prize amount of Rs 5 lakh.
Prize Money for Purple Cap Winner
RCB’s dominance spread through till the bowling ranks as well, as spinster Shreyanka Patil‘s web of spin left all dazzled, as the youngster waltzed her way t the Purple Cap after scalping 13 wickets in the WPL season.
Her outstanding spell of 4/12 in the final against Delhi Capitals was arguably the difference maker, as RCB bowled Delhi out of their own stadium for just 113 runs in 18.3 overs.
For all her bowling genius, Shreyanka was awarded with Rs. 5 lakh as well, for holding on to the Purple Cap at the end of the tournament.
Prize Money for Most Valuable Player of WPL 2024
What’s the new award, you may ask. Well, the Most Valuable Player or the MVP for short, refers to the most well-rounded player in the tournament, who dazzled spectators and players alike, with not just one aspect of their game, but multiple. The ability to be a difference maker at any point in any way possible.
This year’s MVP in the WPL 2024 was none other than the ever-versatile Deepti Sharma of the UP Warriorz.
Sharma was sensational through and through with both bat and ball scoring 295 runs at an average of 98.33 and taking 10 wickets at an average of 21.70. Along with her stellar statistics, Deepti also etched her name in the game’s history, becoming the first woman to both score a fifty and claim a hattrick in a single T20 match, in her outing against Delhi Capitals.
For Deepti’s all-round brilliance, she was awarded with a prize of Rs 5 lakh as well.
