WATCH | Sandeep Sharma Recalls Saurabh Netravalkar's Stint for India U-19 Team
Sandeep Sharma recounted his playing days with Saurabh Netravalkar at the India U-19 squad.

USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar became an overnight sensation after producing a memorable performance against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2024. India-born Netravalkar had previously led the USA national team. He even featured in the India team at the 2010 Under-19 World Cup along with KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Sandeep Sharma. Sharma, who plays Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), recounted his playing days with Netravalkar at the India U-19 squad. Sharma revealed that Harmeet Singh, who is currently representing USA at the T20 World Cup, was also part of India’s U-19 squad in 2010.

“After that U-19 World Cup, I think he stopped playing cricket and migrated to US for higher education. I think Harmeet is there as well. I would say all the best yaar. It is everyone’s dream to play international cricket. You are an international player, does not matter if it is against India or any other side. Once you are on the field, just be professional and try to win the game for your team,” Sandeep Sharma said in a video shared by Rajasthan Royals on Instagram.

“14 years ago, Sandeep Sharma and Saurabh Netrawalkar played together for India U19,” read the caption of the video.

A Master’s Degree holder in computer science and a full-time employee at Oracle, Saurabh Netravalkar’s LinkedIn profile reads, “Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle and Professional Cricketer at the USA Cricket.” He had secured a spot in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad at the age of 17. Born in Mumbai in 1991, Netravalkar had finished as India’s highest wicket-taker at the 2010 U-19 World Cup having claimed nine scalps in six matches.

India’s U-19 World Cup journey in 2010 was not quite a memorable one as they fell to Pakistan in the quarterfinals. Babar Azam was part of that Pakistan U-19 squad.

In the T20 World Cup 2024 game against Pakistan, Saurabh Netravalkar picked up two wickets conceding 18 runs in his four overs. Later in the Super Over, he produced a clinical display to thwart Pakistan’s big hitters. The USA cricket team managed to claim a win against Pakistan in the Super Over.
