Rohit Sharma is soaking in the adulation after having led India to a thrilling win in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup where they defeated South Africa in Barbados last week. The world champions arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning and despite the rain, hundreds of fans were present at the Indira Gandhi International Airport to greet the stars.

Alongside Rohit, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah Mohammed Siraj among others were spotted at the airport with the team being flown in a special Air India flight from Barbados after they were stuck in the country for nearly three days due to Hurricane Beryl.

The BCCI shared a clip of an animated Rohit acknowledging the fans who had lined up the roads of Delhi as he waved the world cup trophy.

The clip starts with Rohit being presented a bouquet by BCCI secretary Jay Shah who was also on the same flight along with other India cricketers and support staff.

Rohit and Shah cut a special cake at the airport itself before heading towards the Indian team bus that took them to their hotel from where they left to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.

India remained unbeaten during their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign and became the first team in history to win the tournament without losing a single match.

The Rohit-led side won three of their four Group A matches with one being abandoned due to wet outfield. They beat Ireland, Pakistan and USA in the first round to qualify for the Super 8 stage.

In the second round, they defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia to qualify for the semi-finals where they met the then defending champions England. The last-four stage clash turned out to be a one-sided affair as India stormed into the final to set up a date with South Africa.
