‘Use His Pace and Score Behind the Wicket…’: Steve Smith’s Plan to Tackle Pace Sensation Mayank Yadav
The Australian duo of Steve Smith and Matthew Hayden gave their two cents on the Mayank Yadav and the way they would tackle a pacer like him.

The praises have been flying in for Lucknow Super Giants’ biggest find, the young 21-year-old pacer from Delhi, Mayank Yadav. He has already managed to impress many current and former cricketers with his blistering pace tearing through the batting order. But this Australian duo believes that there is one massive hole that can still be exploited against him.

Speaking to Star Sports as part of the IPL coverage, the current Australian Test opener, and former Rajasthan Royals skipper, Steve Smith shared his two cents on the areas of weakness of Mayank’s current arsenal of deliveries. Smith believes that due to the lack of slower deliveries bowled by Mayank, the batters should look to make best use of the pace on offer.

He added,”If you look at all those balls, there wasn’t one slower ball there, so you don’t have to worry about that at this stage. He might have it in his armoury, we haven’t seen it yet but you can probably trust to get inside the line or maybe give a bit of room and use the pace and let it come to you”.

Sharing a similar perspective is the former Australian and Chennai Super Kings opener, Matthew Hayden. He suggested that the batters just use the pace in the batter’s favour and let the pressure build against the bowler as well.

Hayden added, “If you bang it on length and the pace is fast, it’s tough to hit. And the way you’ve to play someone of that pace is that you need to allow the ball to come to you. Do not try to force it off the front foot or back foot. Just absorb the pressure and the ball will do the rest because of the pace of the delivery”.

While the lack of slower deliveries was pointed out by Smith, Mayank himself had revealed during the post-match coverage by JioCinema that he was advised to improve on his bowling by not compromising his pace. Which could be the mantra he is currently adopting but it remains unclear.
