Australian opener Travis Head has had a brilliant couple of months with the bat as he led his beloved nation to yet another ICC ODI World Cup Title towards the fag end of last year and carried his fine touch into the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
The southpaw was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for big bucks at the auction table and has gone on to justify the hefty price tag with some swashbuckling innings that have helped the side break numerous records.
In the grand scheme of things, the left-hander has redefined what it meant to be a top-order batter in the shortest format of the game, with his devastating batting style which has taken games away from the opposition early on in the games.
The 30-year-old, who has been in incredible form on Indian soil, attributed his touch to Australia’s Test tour of India ahead of the World Cup last year, which laid the foundation for the southpaw’s acclimatisation in the subcontinent.
“I think a lot of of that has come from the Test tour last year, spending time here and working on things and also being a bit older, understanding my game and its blueprint and how you want to go about it and being content and my family being around, all those things,” Head said.
He admitted that he has evolved throughout the runtime of the money-rich T20 extravaganza in India, but also opined that there still remains some work to do.
“In IPL, I have evolved continuously while getting better but I still have some work to do,” he added.
He also touched upon the camaraderie he shares with national side and IPL team skipper Pat Cummins stating that the captain backs his approach and
“We are just close friends and just enjoy each other’s company,” he said.
“When we talk we don’t talk too much game stuff and over time when you build relationships, he now knows how I will go about my job,” he said.
“If I need anything, I talk to him but he lets me do what I need to in order to perform. He backs me,” the southpaw added.
