Strike-rate Concerns for Virat Kohli as RCB Star Unable to Accelerate Though Middle Overs vs SRH
Despite being able to go at a decent strike-rate in the powerplay, Kohli was unable to find a single boundary following the first six overs against SRH.

Despite coming through with a great start through the powerplay, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli perished at the hands of Sunrisers Jaydev Unadkat and the concerns regarding his strike-rate has resurfaced as the star batter had slowed down considerably during the final stages of his innings.

Surprisingly, Kohli’s last boundary came in the final over of the powerplay where he struck T Natarajan which was hit down the ground. But he never was able to pick up the pace since then despite batting till the 15th over. The stark contrast in strike rates will be even more concerning. Kohli was batting at 177.78 but it dipped down to 76 through the middle overs.

RCB were able to get to a flying start in the powerplay thanks to both Kohli and the skipper Faf du Plessis going on the offensive. But the skipper was dismissed by Natarajan with a slower delivery which was mistimed and sent up for an easy catch for the man at covers.

Despite the wicket of du Plessis, RCB went on to have a decent powerplay scoring 61 runs in the first six overs. However, through the middle stages, Kohli and Will Jacks were unable to get going.

SRH had used the favourable matchups against Kohli by using both Shahbaz Ahmed who is a left-arm orthodox bowler and the left-arm pacer, Unadkat who has a decent record against the Indian star. Rajat Patidar was able to keep up the pace as he hit yet another quickfire fifty in just 20 balls.

Unadkat finally had his man as he got the slower off-cutter which Kohli looked to pull but did not get the power as he was caught by the man at the square-leg boundary ropes for the wicket. Kohli’s innings ended with him scoring 51 in 43 balls.

With the T20 World Cup squad to be announced soon and reports suggesting that Kohli could open, this knock could prove to be an issue in the instance where tracks in the USA could be slower much like what we saw today at the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad.
