ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 Highlights: Sri Lanka managed to get the win by 39 runs via DLS in the rain-affected fixture against Zimbabwe at the Diamond Oval, Kimberly.
Dinura Kalupahana managed to put in an all-round show starting with the bat where he managed to get the top score of 60 runs while the wicket-keeper Sharujan Shanmuganathan missed out on his half-century as Sri Lanka finished the first innings and set the target of 205 runs.
In the second innings, it was a cautious start from Zimbabwe who managed to start off really slowly. But Vishwa Lahiru managed to get the ball rolling with the first wicket. After a couple more wickets, the rain managed to halt play for some time.
The revised target was 129 runs in 22 overs, but the Zimbabwe batting had no chance as Sri Lanka managed to let themselves loose and get wickets going quickly. Vishwa Lahiru managed to finish the game with three wickets, while Malsha Tharupathi also picked up three wickets in the innings. Ravishan de Silva picked up two wickets as Zimbabwe were bundled out for just 89 runs in 21.1 overs.
Among Zimbabwe’s batters, no one really got themselves going in the game other than the skipper Matthew Schonken who had a decent start but eventually departed for 27 runs while Ronak Patel and Campbell MacMillan looked to get going quickly but were also dismissed as Zimbabwe began their World Cup campaign with a tough loss against Sri Lanka.
