RR vs MI, IPL 2024: Chahal, Boult Strike Down on MI Batters as Rajasthan Royals Secure Smooth 6-Wicket Win
A couple of three-wicket hauls from Boult and Chahal, couple with a superb fifty from Riyan Parag helped Rajasthan Royals cruise to the third straight win of their IPL 2024 campaign.

Rajasthan Royals handed Mumbai Indians their third consecutive defeat of this season at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, as RR wrapped up their chase with ease in merely more than 4 overs to go.

MI, who were playing their first home game, fell short in the first innings as they could only manage 125 runs in the first innings.

Rajasthan chased the score down, squashing MI’s hopes of starting their long home leg with a victory. Sanju Samson and co. are still undefeated in the tournament so far whereas Mumbai is still looking for their first victory.

Riyan Parag, the most talked about Rajasthan player after Sanju Samson, has well and truly stepped up in this season. Although it’s too early to say, Parag is making IPL 2024 his redemption season. A quality domestic cricketer, who failed to translate the same performances in IPL, was constantly targeted for not being able to justify his place in the IPL.

Earlier in the day, Rajasthan won the Toss and decided to field first. It was not an ideal start for Mumbai Indians as Trent Boult striked twice in the first over of the match. Boult’s 5th and 6th delivery sent Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir back into the dressing room.

Rohit went to feel the ball on his bat but instead ended up edging the ball to the wicketkeeper Sanju Samson who took a diving catch to dismiss the veteran opener. Naman was trapped LBW by an in-swinging delivery which was given out as an umpires call.

Ishan Kishan, who looked good in the Hyderabad game was a big hope for the home team. Ishan did get a lifeline though. Nandre Burger trapped Ishan in front of the stumps on the last delivery of the second over, Rajasthan appealed but it was turned down. RR didn’t take the review while the replay showed its out.

Boult then came back to strike once again in his second over. This time the youngster from South Africa Dewald Brewis who got a short ball on the body and ends up handing an easy catch to Nandre Burger standing at gully.

The ball had that extra bounce and it found the edge of Ishan’s bat and went straight into the hands of Sanju Samson behind the wicket. Mumbai found themselves in a spot of bother with just 20 runs on the board and four wickets down.

Hardik got two consecutive boundaries against Burger in the last over of the powerplay. After 6 overs, Mumbai were 46 for 4 with Tilak on 12 and Hardik on a quick 16.

Hardik fell to Yuzvendra Chahal in the 10th over as he tried clearing the long-on boundary but ended up giving a high catch to Rowman Powell. Half of Mumbai’s side was back in the dugout with just 76 runs on the board.
