Amid reports of Shubman Gill unfollowing Rohit Sharma on the social media platform Instagram, the young Indian batter has shared a few pictures with the Indian captain before leaving for India. Gill, along with Avesh Khan, will head back home as India fly to the Caribbean for the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
On Sunday afternoon (IST), Gill took to Instagram and shared a picture with Rohit and his daughter Samaira. The 24-year-old also wrote a cheeky caption which has now gone viral on social media.
“Sammy and I learning the art of discipline from @rohitsharma45,” Gill wrote on the picture posted as his Insta story.
Earlier on Saturday, News CricketNext had reported that Gill and Avesh, who were among the travelling reserves, will not travel to the West Indies for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. It was understood that the change in plan was due to the schedule of the next stage of the tournament.
As per the original plan, both of them were supposed to travel with the side for the complete tournament but the management now didn’t feel the need to carry the squad of 19 – 15 in squad and four travelling reserves.
India are scheduled to play Super 8 matches on June 20, 22, and 24, and will be playing the second semi-final on June 27 if they qualify.
“There was very little gap between games for any extensive practice. So it was decided by the management to release the two players as matches are literally back to back and there is very little scope for marathon practice sessions to happen. Khaleel is already there to ensure the left-arm variety in nets if needed,” a source, privy to developments, told the website.
