The legendary career of England legend and all-time great, James Anderson, ended after the side was able to win a dominant win over the West Indies in the first Test that took place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London on Friday.
Anderson rolled back the years after a fairly stagnant show in the first innings. We got to see the vintage pacer moving the ball both ways in the second innings which resulted in him picking up three wickets in the second innings as he bid adieu to his international career.
Let’s take a look at Anderson’s career figures and all the records he has achieved.
Anderson is currently the third-highest wicket-taker in the five-day format. He trails behind the likes of Shane Warne at second with 708 and Muttiah Muralitharan at the top with 800 wickets in the format.
Most Wickets by a Pacer
Amongst fast bowlers in the longest format of the sport, Anderson sits at the very top with the most wickets by a quick bowler. He is also the one pacer to hit the 700 wickets milestone. The next best pacer is none other than his close compatriot, Stuart Broad who sits with 100 wickets lesser than his comrade.
2nd Most Test Matches Played
Anderson’s Test career began against Zimbabwe at Lord’s and his career also came to an end in the very same venue. During this 21-year-long career, he has played in a total of 188 Tests which is 12 short of Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 200 Tests.
3rd Most Runs in an Innings by Batting Position (11)
James Anderson proved to be the perfect tailender as he has shown on multiple occasions that he could hold his own with the willow. One cannot forget his batting performance against India at Nottingham in 2014 where he scored 81 to help set a mammoth partnership for the final wicket with Joe Root. He also has the 3rd most runs scored batting at the bottom of the order with 81 runs.
Most Wickets Taken, Caught by a Keeper
Anderson has shown time and again that with his ability to swing the ball both ways, he can get the nick to the keeper from the best of batters. Following this, he also holds the record for the most wickets taken, which was nicked and carried to the keeper with as many as 198 taken during his time in England whites.
First Pacer to Bowl 40000 Deliveries in Tests
Jimmy Anderson has been known to be relentless with his bowling and has shown that he can keep up bowling long spells even in the hot conditions in the subcontinent. His longevity is unmatched as he becomes the only fast bowler to cross 40000 legal deliveries bowled in the format.
1000 Runs, 50 Wickets and 50 Catches
Anderson has shown that he can chip in mostly with the ball and the field, with the odd batting cameos he has ensured that he shares a rare feat of having hit 1000 runs 50 wickets and 50 catches.
