Team India skipper Rohit Sharma heaped praises on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube after the southpaws helped the hosts clinch the series against Afghanistan.
India played an aggressive brand of cricket with the bat as Jaiswal and Dube stamped their authority over the Afghan bowlers to make a mockery of the 173-run chase. They scored boundaries at will to take the match away from the visitors’ reach in no time. India chased down the target with 26 balls to spare and took the unassailable 2-0 lead in a three-match series.
Rohit also became the first men’s cricketer to play 150 T20I matches and he reflected on his journey with the Indian team in the shortest,
“It is a great feeling, it has been a long journey starting way back in 2007. I’ve cherished every moment I have spent here,” Rohit said in a post-match presentation.
The Indian skipper was impressed with his team playing with positive intent and players stepping up taking the initiative of adopting an aggressive approach with the bat.
“We have been clear with what we wanted to do, a very clear message to everyone and when you see a performance like that, you can be really proud. One thing is talking about it, but to actually go there and play that way is a proud feeling. The last two games, we’ve ticked a lot of boxes,” he added.
Yashasvi got out after hammering 68 off 34 balls, including six sixes, Dube ended unbeaten on a 32-ball 63, hitting four maximums in the process. Rohit hailed Jaiswal’s talent and said he has shown what he is capable of with his performances in Test and T20I formats.
“They’ve had a great couple of years, Jaiswal has played Test cricket now and even T20I. He has shown what he is capable of. He has the talent and has a great range of shots,” he added.
While the skipper talked about Dube’s ability to hit the spinners for big shots.
“Dube is a big guy, very powerful and can take on the spinners. That is his role and he has come out and played two crucial innings for us,” Rohit further said.
