IPL 2024: Shubman Gill Says 'Good Wicket to Bat On, Poor Batting Performance' by GT After Losing to LSG
After losing to Lucknow Super Giants, Shubman Gill said Gujarat Titans' batting was poor and could not back up their good bowling display.

Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill was disappointed after losing by 33 runs to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.

Marcus Stoinis’ fine half-century was complimented brilliantly by Yash Thakur’s fifer helped LSG beat GT for the first time in the IPL.

After the match, Shubman Gill said that Gujarat Titans’ batting was poor and could not back up their good bowling display.

“It was a good wicket to bat on, a poor batting performance by us. We got a decent start but lost wickets in the middle and couldn’t recover from that. Our bowlers were exceptional as they restricted them to 160-odd, just that our batters let us down,” Shubman Gill said at the post-match presentation.

Opting to bat, LSG rode on Stoinis’ 58 in 43 balls and his 73-run partnership with skipper KL Rahul (33 off 31) for the third wicket as they went on to score 163 for 5. Nicholas Pooran chipped in with 32 off 22 balls to give the LSG innings the final flourish.

It was a torrid chase for GT with Thakur (5/30) and Krunal Pandya (3/11) sharing eight wickets between them, and they were bowled out for 130 in 18.5 overs.

Gill praised his bowlers for restricting the opposition to 163 runs, highlighting their impressive effort on what he believed to be a good batting track.

He noted that they had anticipated a higher score from the opposition but were pleased with their bowlers’ ability to limit them to a lower total.

“It was tremendous to watch our bowlers bowl, we were looking forward to restricting them around 160-165,” Shubman said.

When asked if GT missed David Miller in the match, Shubman said: “Miller is the kind of a player who can change a game in a couple of overs, because I think this total was very gettable for us.”

Shubman Gill fell to Yash Thakur, who took the first five-wicket haul of the season, with a peach of a delivery.

When asked about the dismissal, the GT captain said: “I thought it was the last over of the powerplay and I just wanted to make the most of it, just that I missed that ball as I tried to play a bit too square.”
