IPL 2024: KKR Spinner Varun Chakravarthy Reveals Family Did Not Support Him In Match Against CSK | WATCH
Chakravarthy, who had played as a net bowler for CSK, returned to Chepauk in KKR's defeat to CSK in Chennai on Monday. The 32-year-old was quick to acknowledge that it was a special day for him but also revealed that his family was present at the venue to support CSK.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ unbeaten run in this Indian Premier League (IPL) was put to an end by Chennai Super Kings on April 8. It was a low-scoring affair at Chepauk where the reigning champions notched a seven-wicket win. Like any other match of CSK, the venue played host to a sea of yellow fans.

Varun Chakravarthy, a vital cog in the KKR spin department, later revealed that his parents were also part of the home crowd. Previously, he had played as a net bowler for CSK in Chepauk.

During the post-match conversation, Chakaravarthy was asked to share his feelings about playing in Chennai. The 32-year-old was quick to acknowledge that it was a special day for him but regretted that his family was present at the venue to support CSK. Chakaravarthy said, “It feels special. All my family came to watch the match but all of them came in yellow. Anyway, that’s the reality.”

Despite making a return to Chepauk, Chakravarthy did not have a fruitful outing against CSK as KKR conceded a seven-wicket defeat. Chakravarthy was wicketless conceding 26 runs in his four overs. Batting first, KKR could manage to post a meagre total of 137 runs losing nine wickets in 20 overs. During the run chase, CSK scored the winning runs with 14 balls to spare.

It was also KKR’s first defeat of this season’s IPL. Following the game, former KKR player Robin Uthappa stated that poor batting performance was the reason behind the two-time champions’ defeat against CSK.

“Shreyas Iyer batted through the innings but did not do much. KKR let themselves down today. 56 from the first 6 and then back-to-back wickets from Jadeja put them in trouble. Jaddu was the bowler that caused the issue,” Uthappa said on JioCinema.

KKR kicked off their IPL 2024 campaign on a promising note with three wins from as many games. In their season opener, KKR got the better of Sunrisers Hyderabad by four runs. Next, KKR was up against RCB and the Shreyas Iyer-led side recorded a seven-wicket victory. KKR extended their winning run to three with an emphatic 106-run win against Delhi Capitals.

With six points from four games, KKR are now placed in second position in the IPL 2024 standings. In their next match, KKR will be up against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, April 14.
