There is nothing more humbling and honoring than getting to represent your country at the biggest of stages. India’s Harmanpreet Kaur was a living example of the same as the India Women’s skipper was seen sharing an emotional moment as the national anthem played prior to their T20 World Cup opener against New Zealand on Friday.
India began their campaign for Women’s T20 World Cup glory tonight as Harmanpreet Kaur-led India continues to face off against Sophie Devine’s New Zealand.
Ahead of their match, as both teams lined up for their national anthems to be played, the moment got the better of Kaur who was seen taking a deep emotional breath upon India’s national anthem being played at the big stage.

India reached the final of the tournament once in the past eight editions. They found themselves near the finish line in 2020 but could not get past Australia.
The previous edition of the competition saw India make the semi-finals but lost to Australia once again at the knockout stage.
India will now be looking for redemption in the tournament’s ninth edition, and Harmanpreet Kaur will play a pivotal role with both the bat and the ball for her side.
Before Team India departed for the United Arab Emirates, Head Coach of the Women’s Team, Amol Muzumdar had left everyone in suspense with regards to who would be playing as India’s No.3 batter for the T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
Ahead of the opening game against New Zealand in Dubai on Friday, Muzumdar has shed some clarity regarding the same.
“We had already decided back in India and in the camps that happened before we set off from Mumbai. We had a lovely camp in Bangalore, and we decided there. Basically, these pre-World Cup matches absolutely stamped that for us. Go through the scorecard, you’ll find out,” said Muzumdar in the pre-match press conference.
Another big aspect that the side is lacking in is the sixth bowling option. The skipper can chip in with some off-spin. However, she has not bowled in a T20I for quite some time.
Muzumdar once again backed Harmanpreet to get the job done along with three others who were not named to chip in should the situation demand so.
“We’ve paid a lot of attention to the sixth bowling option. Also, for a fact that we have had multiple discussions within our top six, at least three to four have to bowl. If we can get those overs out of them, then nothing like it,” remarked Muzumdar.
