The unpredictable Nassau County Stadium’s pitch is set to host the most high-octane fixture so far in the T20 World Cup, as India face off against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup on Sunday. And the battle that shall ensure tomm, which is on everyone’s minds, is a constant: India’s power-packed batters vs Pakistan’s relenting pace attack.
Former Indian international Ishant Sharma is also eyeing the same, as the pacer stated his eagerness to witness Rohit Sharma’s men take on the Pakistani pacers.
It can be expected that the pace-heavy Babar Azam-led side may feature four pacers – Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf – against their arch-rivals India.
The subpar nature of the New York stadium’s pitch has been the recipient of much criticism, with players, coaches and former players alike voicing out their issue with the same.
But, no matter what, keeping the pitch factor in mind, Ishant said it will be interesting to see Indian batters facing Pakistan’s pace arsenal.
“The India-Pakistan match is the pinnacle of excitement in cricket. The intense rivalry brings out the best in both teams. I’m eager to see how India tackles Pakistan’s formidable bowling attack on this challenging pitch,” he said.
Understanding the mysterious nature of the pitch that surprises all every time, Ishant also stated that utilising a trio of all-rounders Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya would be a helpful way to counter the effects of the same and to provide India with an extra dimension of talent.
“Our strategy will heavily rely on the versatility of all-rounders like Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya. Remember the heart-stopping Super Over in 2007? We might be in for another nail-biter. This match isn’t just a game; it’s a battle of strategies and nerves, and I’m excited to see it unfold,” Ishant said.
The Men in Blue remain dominant over their arch-rivals in the T20 World Cup, having incurred only one loss and six wins in their seven previous meetings.
And the two historic sides shall battle it all out yet again in the biggest stage of all, as India will be looking to strike against a morally-deflated Pakistan side that incurred a shocking loss against hosts USA in their tournament opener.
