Gujarat Titans picked up their second win of the ongoing season of the IPL with a 7-wicket triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

“To be able to win two matches at home is great. We have another game here before we travel for an away game and hopefully, we will have good momentum. when we come back,” the young skipper said.

GT managed to put a lid on the runs during the crucial stages of the innings and Gill lauded his bowling unit for the feat.

“The way our bowlers bowled in the middle overs, especially Noor (Ahmed) and Rashid (Khan), who is a world-class bowler, and the way Darshan  (Nalkande) bowled a couple of overs was superb,” Gill said.

“In T20, you have to keep your options open. We thought 160-170 would be a good score. Credit to all the bowlers to restrict them to that score,” he added.

Veteran pacer Mohit Sharma was the pick of the lot as he registered a three-wicket haul to claim the Player of the match award and Gill praised the 35-ear-old for his contribution.

“He’s such an experienced player, especially on wickets like these. He comes in, bowls those yorkers and slower balls.”

“In this heat, it’s easier to score with the new ball. Our plan was to make them hit the slower ball to the longer side,”

Gill, who opened the batting for GT, chipped in with a 36-run knock to help his side before falling prey to Mayank Markande.

“The ball was there to be hit, I was backing my shot, but the ball hit the bottom of the bat,” he revealed.

He was aided by performances from Wriddhiman Saha, who made 25 off 13, Sai Sudharshan, who added 45 off 36 and David Miller, who remained unbeaten at 44.

Gill also levied any concerns over the South African Miller, who looked in visible pain during his knock, stating that it was just a cramp that he picked up and there was no cause for worry.

“Everyone knows their roles, Sai has been playing well, Wriddhi bhai does well and Miller is back in form,” he concluded.
