'Absence of a Player of Virat Kohli's Class Makes a Difference But...': Shubman Gill on India's Latest Additions Making it Count
Shubman Gill thinks that India's newest additions to their squad are making the most of their opportunities in the absence of senior stars like Virat Kohli.

As both sides gear up for the fourth Test between India vs England at Ranchi, Shubman Gill thinks that the latest additions to India’s squad have been making the most of the chances they are being given.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of the match, Gill recognised the difference in the side with Virat Kohli missing out on the series. “Virat bhai is not with us for the last three Tests, and yes, the absence of a player of his class makes a bit of difference,” said Gill

In place of Kohli, India roped in Sarfaraz Khan who had been making a name for himself in the first-class format. The 26-year-old Mumbaikar went on to make his debut in the Rajkot Test and made a fantastic first impression as well, scoring fifties in both innings.

Gill also sees the debutants putting in good performances and believes that they are making the most of the chances they are being handed. Gill mentioned, “I think Sarfaraz came in and played well. So, I think they are doing well in the opportunities that they are getting”.

He also thinks that they have been given the chances only because of the absence of the senior players. In addition to Kohli, the pacer, Bumrah has also been released but only for the 4th Test. The reason provided as per the BCCI release read,” The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times”. In place of the pacer, Mukesh Kumar has joined the squad in Ranchi.

KL Rahul has been ruled out as well with the batter unable to get back to full-fitness. His availability for the final Test will be ‘subject to fitness’.

Dhruv Jurel who made his debut as India’s wicket-keeper batter, also managed to put in a good show with both the gloves and the bat. He played a massive role in turning the tides in the hosts’ favor by enforcing the run-out to get rid of the dangerous Ben Duckett. He was only able to bat in the first innings but went on to score a solid 46 as well.

Gill believes that the youngsters have recognised the value of the opportunity that they have in the absence of senior players. “The young players have got the opportunity because Virat bhai or Bumrah bhai are not there. So, those youngsters also know that this opportunity might not remain with them for long, so they are trying to give their best in every opportunity,” he concluded.

India will look to put the nail in the coffin with a win at Ranchi and claim the series victory. But England has been a tricky side to beat with the touring side coming on top on several moments in the series so far.
