Rajini Ranjith, a 27-year-old pottery artist hailing from Poolavadi village, has garnered recognition and praise from K. Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu Chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for his remarkable creation of a clay effigy depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During a tour of Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, Annamalai had the opportunity to meet Rajini and was presented with the clay idol of the Prime Minister.
This unique clay sculpture captures Prime Minister Modi dressed in a white shirt, pants, and a half-sleeve light blue ‘Sadri’ jacket. Notably, the jacket was ingeniously crafted from recycled plastic bottles, a piece presented to the Prime Minister by the Indian Oil Corporation during India Energy Week in Bengaluru on February 6, 2023. The effigy also showcases the Prime Minister holding an artefact, and it received accolades from BJP workers present during the encounter.
Ranjith has captured the hearts of Rajinikanth fans as well by making the clay scriptures of the Tamil superstar. Ranjith considers Rajinikanth his role model and decides to use his pottery to express his deep admiration for Rajinikanth. He created many earthenware pieces that include the first look of Rajinikanth from his first film, Lal Salaam. Ranjith had presented this sculpture to Rajinikanth’s wife, Lata Rajinikanth, who was deeply moved by the artistry. Rajinikanth had also filled the artist with praises and also sent a voice note. The actor expressed his appreciation for Ranjith’s artwork and thanked him for his support and admiration.
Ranjith gained recognition in 2022 for his clay sculpture of Rajinikanth in the poster of his movie Jailer. The statue depicted Rajinikanth standing with his hands behind his back, exuding an intense expression. What left the people amazed was Ranjith’s attention to the most minuscule details of the Thalaivar’s sculpture. These details included making a small mouse next to the one-and-a-half-foot-tall statue and this added a delightful touch to his creation.
Ranjith has followed in the footsteps of his father, Mandharachalam, who was a skilled clay sculptor.
