War on Black Money: PMO, IB Officials Go Into Huddle, Security Alert to Follow
India's security establishment has long been convinced that Pakistani spy agency ISI was pumping counterfeit notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 to finance terror activities within, even earning a handsome profit in the process.

New Delhi: The Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and his team met with top officials of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) late on Tuesday night to discuss any possible law and order fallout of the decision to demonetize 500 and 1,000 rupee notes, sources told News18.

The officials apprised the PMO of likely security scenarios and a nationwide alert could be issued soon, sources said.

Even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi finished his nationally televised speech this evening, there were long queues at ATMs across the country. Network18 reporters fanning the country spotted serpentine queues with a few even availing cash deposit facilities at the ATMs to get rid of their 500 and 1,000 rupee notes by depositing them in the machines and crediting their accounts before the midnight deadline.

At an ATM in Mayur Vihar, Delhi, dozens of panic striken people were trying to deposit their high denomination notes minutes after Modi finished his televised address. "I deposited all the money I had. I don't know how to get Rs.100 notes now. I am stunned. How will we pay for emergencies from tomorrow?” said Sneha Kapoor, a home maker, one of the many who had ran to the nearby ATM.

By 8:30 pm there were at least 100 people standing before the two cash deposit machines of an ICICI bank ATM in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 impatiently waiting to get rid of the once prized, now soon to be worthless pieces of paper. Unable to control the swelling crowd security guards were seen downing the shutters of ATMs with cash deposit facilities.

Those who came to withdraw Rs. 100 notes were left disappointed as the ATMs were still dispensing Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 notes. "What can we do? We have suddenly become poor even if we have money. Hope the government ends this chaos by taking effective steps" a young man said.
