Meet Krishnadas Paul, The Man Who Founded Bisk Farm At 60
Bisk Farms is a big player among the top biscuit brands in the market.

There’s no age limit to chasing your dreams. Usually, when people turn 50, they think about retiring, but Krishnadas Paul didn’t follow this approach. At the age of 60, he launched his own company named SAJ Food, inspired by the initials of his children: Sharmistha, Arpan, and Jayeeta. His aim was to produce sugar-free biscuits, leading to the establishment of Bisk Farm in 2000. Achieving significant success for the company posed several challenges. In 2004, Bisk Farms met financial difficulties, recording a loss of Rs 15 crore. Krishnadas Paul shifted his attention towards Eastern India. He launched seven new biscuit varieties, each featuring distinct local flavours. This strategic move proved successful, leading to widespread popularity of his biscuits across West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Odisha.

As time went on, Bisk Farms became a big player among the top brands in the market. News18 reported that the company grabbed the second spot in Eastern India, making up about 40% of the market. By 2008, the company’s sales had jumped to Rs 200 crore.

Krishnadas Paul, unfortunately, passed away in 2020 during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this loss, his legacy remains strong. His son Arpan Paul has assumed the role of executive chairman and is dedicated to upholding his father’s vision, leading the company forward.

According to the Economic Times, SAJ Food wrapped up the fiscal year 2023 with a turnover of Rs 2,100 crore. This achievement cements its status as a leading player in the organised biscuit segment across the country.

Krishnadas Paul was born in Kamarkita village in Burdwan. After studying law, he joined his father’s trading and distribution business, which began in 1947. When the family business split among five brothers, Krishnadas Paul launched his own company, Aparna Agency, in 1974.

He started distributing products for brands like Nestle, Dabur, and Reckitt & Colman. Then, in 2000, he created Bisk Farm. Now, Bisk Farm runs five factories and is the second biggest biscuit brand in the East, after Britannia.

Krishnadas Paul’s story is an inspiration for anyone who is yet to start their dream venture, and wondering if it’s too late. His determination has shown that age doesn’t matter, and it’s never too late to chase your dreams.
