The Department of Consumer Affairs reported that on July 20, the average price of tomatoes across the country was Rs 73.76 per kg.

The average citizen continues to experience no relief from inflation. With rising food prices, it has become increasingly challenging for those with limited means to afford basic meals. The soaring costs of vegetables have exacerbated the situation. In Delhi, the price of tomatoes has surpassed Rs 100 per kilogram. Onions and potatoes are also causing distress among people due to their high prices. Additionally, the cost of green vegetables has surged in recent days.

Market analysts attribute this to reduced vegetable production, including tomatoes, due to excessive heat nationwide. Furthermore, disruptions in vegetable supply caused by rain have further compounded the price hikes, leading to daily increases in prices.

According to a Moneycontrol report citing data from the Central Department of Consumer Affairs, tomatoes are priced at Rs 100 per kilogram at Mother Dairy’s retail outlet ‘Safal’ in New Delhi. In other markets, tomatoes are being sold at Rs 93 per kg. The Department of Consumer Affairs reported that on July 20, the average price of tomatoes across the country was Rs 73.76 per kg.
