Mumbai: The state-run Air India on Thursday denied a media report that one of its Mumbai-bound flight flew past the destination as the pilots were napping.

"The plane had overshot Mumbai June 4 morning but the glitch occurred due to a momentary lapse of radio communication," an Air India spokesperson said.

"We have gone through the flight reports of the last 30 days. A plane did cross Mumbai for 15 km because it had lost contact for a few moments," he said.

According to the media report, the flight left Dubai June 3-4 midnight with around 100 passengers. The plane then headed to Jaipur and from there to Mumbai.

The plane flew to Mumbai on autopilot, but when the air traffic control tried to help the aircraft land, the plane ignored the instructions and carried on at full speed towards Goa, the media report said.

The national carrier said the pilots are given 24 hours' rest before departing from Mumbai.
