An FIR under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) Atrocities Act has been lodged against actress Tanisha Kuppanda, who is currently participating in Bigg Boss Kannada season 10. The state president of Akhil Karnataka, Bhovi Samaj, P Padma filed the complaint at Kumbalagodu Police Station on the outskirts of Bengaluru, alleging the use of derogatory language by Tanisha towards the Bhovi community. This case was filed after a recent conversation between Tanisha Kuppanda and a fellow contestant Drone Pratap inside the BB house. Tanisha had reportedly called him ‘Vaddar’. Tanisha’s comments during the exchange have been deemed as disparaging towards the Bhovi community, which falls under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category. The word has irked the Bhovi community, with calls for immediate action against the actress.
The incident has also caught the attention of the Vaddar community. They have alleged a deliberate insult and are demanding swift and decisive action against Tanisha, considering the SC status of the Bhovi community. The FIR registered under the SC/ST Atrocities Act intensifies the legal implications surrounding the case.
With the case registered, there is a possibility of Tanisha’s eviction or exit for a brief time from the Bigg Boss house. The comment has also irked a controversy, which has prompted demands for her immediate exit from the reality show, emphasising the need to preserve the honour of the Bhovi community.
The Karnataka Bhovi Samaj has been vocal in its condemnation of Tanisha’s alleged remarks, calling her prompt arrest and legal proceedings. The community insists that this incident tarnished the reputation of the individual and also reflects the negative impact on the cultural and social values associated with the community.
The case came days after Varthur Santosh, another contestant of Bigg Boss, was arrested by the forest department for wearing a tiger claw locket. He was seen wearing the locket on the show’s premiere and an FIR was filed which led the forest officials to his arrest.
Tanisha Kuppanda has worked mainly in the Kannada and Tamil film industries. She made her acting debut through Kaarna in the year 2016. She is known for her popular roles in daily soaps including Saakshi, Saptamatruka, and Ashwini nakshatra.
