Employee Blames Rats for Hole in Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Fired Later
According to Balveer Yadav, the project director of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Dausa, the road had caved in due to water leakage

In a bizarre incident, an employee claiming to be the maintenance manager of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project said that rats were responsible for the cave-in of the highway in the Dausa district of Rajasthan.

The employee was a junior employee of KCC Buildcon. When his statement made headlines, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) took a tough stand.

According to a report in ‘India Today’, later, the KCC Buildcon firm that built the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway clarified its position in a letter written to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The firm said that this comment was made by a junior employee who has no technical understanding of the project. The company said that he has been fired from the company.

In the letter, the company stated that the employee is not a maintenance manager and his comments were not based on technical understanding.

The employee who was fired subsequently, had earlier told India Today that it is possible that a rat or a small animal may have dug the pit, due to which water started leaking.

Meanwhile, Balveer Yadav, project director of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Dausa said that the road had caved in due to water leakage. Yadav said that as soon as the contractor came to know about the road cave-in, he immediately barricaded the area and the pit was repaired.

The 1,386 km long Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is set to be the longest in the country. It is expected to reduce the time taken to travel between the two metro cities from 24 hours to only 12-13 hours. This expressway passes through many states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in the Rajya Sabha that 80 percent of the construction work has been completed till July 31. It will take at least one more year to complete the project.
