Himachal Pradesh is set to welcome a new flight linking the spiritual hub Amritsar with the scenic Shimla.
The inauguration of this pivotal route by Air Alliance is slated for November 16, marking a significant development in the state’s aviation landscape.
Top officials from Air Alliance have officially confirmed the commencement of this groundbreaking flight. Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who recently unveiled the Amritsar-Manali and Amritsar-Shimla air routes, announced the launch of the Amritsar-Shimla flight, scheduled to take off from November 16.
Operating thrice a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the flight will depart from Shimla to Amritsar at 0810hrs, arriving in Amritsar at 9:10 am. The return leg will depart from Amritsar on the same day at 09:35 hrs, reaching Shimla at 10:35 hrs. Remarkably, the fare for passengers on this route will be an affordable Rs 1990.
This marks the fifth regular flight connecting Himachal Pradesh to the national air network, positioning the state prominently on the aviation map. Shimla Airport, which had been without flights from 2008 to 2022, witnessed a revival of air services through Air Alliance, which has been instrumental in bringing connectivity to the region.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had previously declared plans to introduce flights between Amritsar and Kullu, along with the Amritsar-Shimla route, under the UDAN scheme. The flights between Shimla and Amritsar are scheduled three days a week, with up to a 50 percent discount on fares aimed at promoting tourism in the region.
Air Alliance is already making strides in Himachal Pradesh, with its existing Delhi-Shimla flight operating daily. This flight is seamlessly connected with services to Shimla-Manali and Shimla-Dharmshala three times a week on alternate days, further enhancing the accessibility of the state by air.
