Why Travel Experts Warn You Against Using Hotel Irons
One self-described frequent flyer advises rolling the clothes while packing, instead of folding them, to prevent too much creasing.

Imagine the horror of ironing your clothes right before you begin packing for your vacations, and then they get wrinkled. So, the next and obvious thought is that you will iron it at the hotel. It is not exactly ideal to kickstart your holidays with a pile of clothes that needs ironing when everyone is headed downstairs. One travel expert warns not to use the hotel irons. Do you know why? Gilbert Ott, a self-described frequent flyer and founder of the travel site God Save The Points, advises rolling the clothes while packing instead of folding them to prevent too much creasing. As per him, this trick also saves space. While talking about using hotel irons, he revealed that hotel guests often use these irons for various reasons.

In an interview with the media, he revealed, “It’s worth inspecting the hotel iron, or testing it on a non-external-facing garment before trusting your soon-to-be crisp white shirt.” He further added that pilots are known to often use irons to reheat their pizza and other foods during layovers. So, if you are not too keen on getting your favourite white shirt or blouse stained with barbeque sauce or grease, Gilbert recommends hanging the clothes next to the steamy shower to remove the creases on the outfit. He advises guests to hang their items of clothing on the towel rack or behind the bathroom door and the steam from the shower will do its trick.

There have been several viral videos on the internet which have shown quick tips and tricks to use hotel items for their convenience. These have attracted considerable attention. A particular video claimed that one can easily reheat a slice of pizza by just putting it on the hot side of the iron. One can make noodles or eggs in the coffee pot and another showed using the iron to also grill steak.

So, the next time you are travelling, make sure you clean the iron at the hotel before you press it on your clothes.
