Sensex Ends 122 pts Higher In Lackluster Trade, Nifty Above 21,450; Coal India Rises 6%, Nestle 5%
Nestle India up 1.5 per cent was the top gainer among the Sensex 30 stocks, after the company fixed January 05 as the record date for stock split

What started off as a muted session, ended with decent gains on Tuesday, as Reliance Industries, FMCG, and financials gained ground.

The S&P BSE Sensex settled 122 points, or 0.17 per cent, higher at 71,437 levels, while the Nifty50 ended at 21,453, up 34 points or 0.16 per cent.

Coal India (up 6 per cent), Nestle India (47 per cent), NTPC, Tata Consumer Products, RIL, SBI, IndusInd Bank, HUL, Axis Bank, and ITC were the top gainers on the benchmark indices.

Meanwhile, the broader markets ended mixed with the BSE MidCap slipping 0.31 per cent, but the BSE SmallCap rising 0.10 per cent.

Among sectors, the Nifty FMCG index rose 1.4 per cent , followed by the Nifty PSU Bank (up 0.8 per cent). On the contrary, the Nifty IT index fell 0.95 per cent, followed by the Nifty Auto (down 0.75 per cent).

Global Cues

Elsewhere in Asia, markets were mixed even as the Bank of Japan maintained its ultra-loose monetary settings on Tuesday in a widely expected move, underscoring policymakers’ preference to await more clues on whether wages will rise enough to keep inflation durably around its 2 per cent target.
