Carlo Ancelotti Extends Real Madrid Contract Till 2026

Carlo Ancelotti extended his contract with Real Madrid to June 2026 as per reports on Friday.

This would ideally render him unable to undertake the managerial position in Brazil’s national football team.

The Brazil Football Confederation had named Fernando Diniz as the temporary manager before they anticipated Ancelotti taking control for the 2024 Copa America.

Ednaldo Rodriguez, the then president of the CBF, held months of negotiations with Ancelotti, who had previously stated the Real job would be his last in football.

However, it appeared one of the most glamorous and challenging jobs in football had brought a change of mind.

“Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti have reached an agreement on the extension of his contract till June 30, 2026,” Real Madrid said in a statement.

It had been reported in July this year that 64-year-old Ancelotti would become the first foreigner to coach Brazil in 60 years once he saw out his present Real contract next year.

But, according to reports, it is believed that upon Real catching wind of the Italian;s interest in joining the Brazil, Los Blancos decided to reward Ancelotti with an enticing offer to ensure that they acquire his services for the near future to come.

Ancelotti has undeniably etched his name onto Real Madrid’s history, as one of their most successful managers in the modern era.

In a statement released by Real Madrid, the prowess and the undeniable greatness of the Italian was highlighted.

“In his five seasons as coach of Real Madrid, he has won 10 titles: 2 Champions League, 2 Club World Cups, 2 European Super Cups, 1 League, 2 Copas del Rey and 1 Spanish Super Cup.

“Carlo Ancelotti is the only coach to have won 4 European Cups and the one to have achieved the most victories in the history of this competition (118), and he is also the first coach to win the five major European Leagues (Italy, England, France , Germany and Spain).”

This is Ancelotti’s second spell with Los Blancos, and his first season back at Real Madrid could scarcely have been more successful.

After wrapping up the domestic league title with weeks of the season to spare, victory over Liverpool in the Champions League final in May 2022 secured the biggest prize in club football. It was the fourth time the Italian has won the competition in his managerial career, which is more than any other manager in the history of the Champions League.

This season, it has been a different yet similar tale. Real Madrid have been plagued with countless injuries to key players since the beginning of the season, setting Ancelotti up for a tough ask. But, under the guidance of the distinguished Italian and the enigmatic presence of new signee Jude Bellingham, Madrid have still managed to claw their way back to the top of the league so far and have also qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League with much ease.

Although the La Liga title race remains close as ever, one cannot put it past Ancelotti and his resolve to ensure that football royalty remains at the very top, or atleast fight tooth and nail till the very end for the same.
