Lucknow University To Introduce Courses To Become Religious Leader In Indian Army
A candidate will be considered eligible for this post if they have a Bachelor’s degree in Rituals or a PG Diploma in Acharya.

Lucknow University will now be offering a unique kind of course from this year onwards. One can choose to become a religious leader in the Indian army. The Board Of Oriental Studies in the Sanskrit Department of Lucknow University is going to commence the study of religious leaders in the Army this year. Dr Prerna Mathur, coordinator of the department informed that there is a post in the army of a religious leader who will be carrying out the religious activities there. Now, the course regarding this will begin this year. As per Dr Prerna, a candidate will be considered eligible for this post if they have a Bachelor’s degree in Rituals or a PG Diploma in Acharya. She shared that in 2024-25, students from this department of Lucknow University will be able to do this course with Rituals subject or pursue a PG Diploma in Acharya. PG Diploma in Rituals and Acharya will be just one year, while the graduation is four years.

Dr Prerna Mathur further informed that a total of 28 seats are available in Shastri, while 20 are available in PG Diploma in Rituals. There will be no fees in Shastri. Students will only have to deposit the form money. Students will be able to graduate from here by becoming a Shastri for just Rs 5,000. For the PG Diploma course in Acharya, the fee is Rs 10,000 per semester.

Religious leaders are generally appointed in the Indian Army to conduct religious functions in different regiments and units. They are also responsible for carrying out various religious traditions among the army personnel. For the post of Pandit, candidates must have a graduation degree from a recognised university. They should also be Hindus and have a one-year diploma course in rituals. The age limit for these posts is not less than 25 years and the candidate should not be more than 34 years.

The Indian Army also recruits religious teachers. They are hired at the rank of Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). The salary is up to Rs 1 lakh every month.
