The eagerly awaited second carriageway of the Sarai Kale Khan flyover, a crucial component of Delhi‘s ongoing infrastructure enhancement, is now 100 percent complete.
Commuters are on the verge of experiencing the positive changes as travel from ITO to Ashram is expected to become much easier. Public Works Department (PWD) officials have been working diligently to enhance the flyover’s appearance, and it is likely to be open to the public as early as this Sunday.
A senior PWD official, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared, “We’ve already submitted all the necessary paperwork to the state government for the official inauguration. We’re aiming for a celebration around 12:30 PM on October 22.”
Notably, Delhi government officials remained tight-lipped when asked to comment on this monumental development.
During a site inspection on Tuesday, it was observed that trial runs were in full swing to assess the newly revamped structure. The same official revealed, “We also conducted trial runs by releasing vehicle batches on Monday.”
Currently, the Sarai Kale Khan location has a one-way flyover for those heading from Ashram to ITO, but the reverse journey often grinds to a halt due to traffic congestion at the T-junction red light. The fresh flyover brings with it the promise of a seamless, signal-free corridor at the vital Sarai Kale Khan T-junction on Ring Road.
Also the project faced delays, missing its initial July deadline. PWD Minister Atishi expressed her concerns during an inspection on August 7 when the flyover was 90 percent complete.
Another PWD official highlighted the significance of Sarai Kale Khan as one of the city’s busiest traffic hubs. In the near future, traffic in the area is expected to increase significantly, primarily due to the ongoing construction of the Rapid Rail Transit System.
The area already boasts a railway station, a Metro station, and ISBT, making Sarai Kale Khan a key transportation hub in the coming year. The 643-meter-long, three-lane flyover, constructed parallel to the existing one from Ashram to ITO, comes with an estimated cost of Rs 65.55 crore.
With traffic from Akshardham, the Delhi-Meerut expressway, and Mayur Vihar all converging at this junction, the completion of the flyover promises to provide a much-needed, efficient route for commuters from Ghaziabad and ITO heading towards Ashram.
The Sarai Kale Khan flyover represents a significant step forward in our city’s ongoing efforts to enhance its infrastructure and make life a little easier for all of us.
