'As Long as They Stay Fit And Keep Scoring Runs': Rohit Sharma Indicates Doors Not Closed For Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma asserted that the doors are not closed for anyone in the team.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has indicated that the doors are not closed for senior stars as long as they stay fit and keep scoring runs. The absence of Virat Kohli from the first two Tests against England has put the team management in a tricky position to name his replacement. According to several reports, Rajat Patidar is expected to replace Kohli in the India squad as senior batters Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are not in consideration at the moment.

Skipper Rohit addressed a press conference on the eve of the first Test against England in Hyderabad where he asserted that the doors are not closed for anyone in the team.

“I’m not saying by no means the doors are closed for anyone. As long as they stay fit, they keep scoring runs, anyone will be welcomed back into the setup,” Rohit said in the press conference.

Cheteshwar Pujara has been out of the Indian team since the World Test Championship Final last year, he recently scored a double century in the Ranji Trophy but failed to get a place in the squad for the series against England.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane lost his place in the Test team after the West Indies tour, he also failed to impress in the Ranji Trophy this season thus far.

Rohit asserted that the team needed the right amount of balance with young and experienced players in the squad.

“But, yeah, having said that, I think it’s important to also look at some of the other players as well. At the same time, we don’t want to end up in a place where we’ve got out of eleven guys, seven or eight guys who’ve barely played 2025 Test matches between them. We don’t want to be in that situation,” he added.

The Indian captain further said that it’s important to give every player enough game time to get them ready for the big challenge.

“So it’s important that whenever you have the opportunity, give them some game time,” he said.
